Leadership change at the maxon Group: CEO Eugen Elmiger hands over operational management to Andreas Richter

A change is taking place at the operational helm of the maxon Group: After 35 years with the company, including 15 years as CEO, Eugen Elmiger is handing over the position to Andreas Richter. Mr. Elmiger will remain with the company as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors.
After 35 years at maxon, including 15 years as CEO, Eugen Elmiger will hand over the operational leadership of the maxon Group in March 2027 to the current Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Deputy CEO, Andreas Richter. Mr. Elmiger will remain with the company as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors with a focus on strategic responsibilities.
Mr. Elmiger joined the maxon Group in 1991 and was appointed CEO in 2011. When he started in 1991, the maxon group, formerly known as Interelectric ag, generated sales of approximately CHF 50 million and employed 408 people. Today, the maxon Group has more than 3,000 employees worldwide, and annual sales for 2025 amounted to nearly CHF 600 million.
Mr. Elmiger has played a decisive role in shaping the development of the maxon Group over several decades. Under his leadership, the company further strengthened its international market position, expanded into new business areas, and continuously increased its capacity for innovation.
Mr. Elmiger: “This is the right time to hand over responsibility to the next generation. I look forward to continuing to help shape maxon’s future as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors.”
Andreas Richter: With the maxon Group since 2020
The Board of Directors has appointed Andreas Richter as the new CEO of the maxon Group. He joined the company in 2020 and has served as Chief Operating Officer ever since. In this role, Mr. Richter was responsible for all production sites of the maxon Group.
The succession plan is part of a long-term and carefully prepared transition process. Until the change takes effect in March 2027, Mr. Elmiger will continue to fully perform his role as CEO and will actively support the transition to a new leadership team.
Next stage of the generational change
The CEO transition continues the most recent generational change within the maxon Group. It began in June 2026, when the Group announced that principal shareholder Dr. Karl-Walter Braun would hand over the chairmanship of the Board of Directors to his daughter, Dr. Bianca Braun.
Bianca Braun is pleased that the Group will continue to rely on proven leadership in its operational management in the future: “With Andreas Richter, we are gaining a CEO who knows maxon exceptionally well and will consistently drive the future development of our company. He has many years of leadership experience within the maxon Group and believes strongly in the group’s focus on continuity, innovation, and sustainable growth.”
Additional leadership changes within the group
The CEO transition is part of a forward-looking evolution of maxon’s leadership organization. As part of this succession plan, additional changes are being made to the company’s leadership teams:
- Stefan Müller, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at maxon, will also be appointed Deputy CEO.
- Daniel von Wyl, currently Managing Director of the Sachseln production site (maxon motor ag), will become Chief Operating Officer (COO), assuming responsibility for maxon’s global production sites and succeeding Andreas Richter in this role.
- Dominik Stockmann, currently Head of Development at the Sachseln site, will become Managing Director of the site, succeeding Daniel von Wyl in this position.
With these succession arrangements, the maxon Group is creating the conditions for continuity, stability, and the company’s continued successful development.
