High-Power EPOS4 Controllers with Certified Safety Features

maxon Australia is proud to announce latest additions to the EPOS4 product family: the EPOS4 Module/Compact 60/20 (STO) series. These new positioning controllers mark a significant leap forward in power and safety, designed to meet the growing demands of Australian industries in robotics, automation and advanced manufacturing.
Building on the global success of the EPOS4 series - now with over half a million units in use world-wide -the new 60/20 variants deliver 1,200 W of continuous power and 2,400 W peak, closing the gap in the power range above 750 W. With 20 A continuous and 40 A peak current, these compact controllers (credit card-sized) offer exceptional performance for both brushed DC and brushless EC (BLDC) motors.
The new models integrate seamlessly with existing EPOS4 systems, maintaining compatibility in software, accessories, and operation. Advanced control features such as Field-Oriented Control (FOC), feedforward, and observer control ensure precise motion in a wide range of applications. Enhanced brake outputs with voltage reduction further expand their versatility, lower power consumption and reduce heating.
The standout feature is the introduction of the Safety Card STO, enabling compliance with PL e / Cat. 3 (EN ISO 13849-1) and SIL 3 (IEC 61508-5) standards. This modular safety solution is compatible with both standard and custom applications, offering Australian engineers a flexible path to certified functional safety.
Coinciding with the hardware launch, maxon has released firmware version 0x0180h, bringing new capabilities across the entire EPOS4/IDX line. Key updates include CiA-402 object enhancements, torque offset functionality, and overall performance improvements.
Available from August, the new EPOS4 60/20 controllers and Safety Card STO are set to empower Australian innovators with more power, safety, and control than ever before. maxon motor Australia have motion control demonstrators and engineers available to discuss your application on site or in our Sydney office.
