Drive systems for power tools
Indispensable helpers.
As the power tool market expands, greater demands are being placed on electric drive systems. They need to be powerful, dynamic, light, and efficient. Drives from maxon are true powerhouses, which meet these expectations with an efficiency level of over 90% and excellent controllability.
The right drive for every device.
To offer the right solution for every device, our product portfolio includes a variety of drive types. Quality and reliability have the highest priority. Expertise and proprietary know-how enable us to develop custom drive systems in an interdisciplinary environment. In particular our brushless motor series offers excellent dynamics, high power density, and long service life due to extremely low wear.
Our product recommendations.
Screwdrivers
Whether they are used in the electronics, construction, or automotive industry, electric screwdrivers are essential for the automation of screwing processes. Our high-precision and powerful drives enable accurate torque and angle measurements as well as high dynamics and power density within small sizes.
Strapping tools & staplers
High-speed operation and strong performance: Brushless motor technology provides stapling tools with the speed needed to take carton stapling to a new level as well as an electronically controlled and reproducible strapping process.
Lopping shears & plant tying machines
The automation of repetitive manual work in agricultural production improves efficiency. Mechatronic drive systems from maxon are used in numerous applications such as lopping shears or plant tying machines.
Frequently asked questions
How can we find out which drive is the best fit for our application, for example brushed or brushless?
Our experts assist in selecting the drive and review all options in order to find the best solution for your application. In general, brushless motors are increasingly used in power tools. They are low-wear and thus achieve a longer service life than brushed motors.
How does maxon ensure that the temperature of the motor housing does not get too hot to hold?
In principle, the surface of a hand-held device should not exceed approximately 43 °C if continuously in direct contact with the hand. The following points must be observed to keep the motor temperature low:
- If possible, oversize the motor so that the load is lower.
- Choose a brushless motor suitable for higher speeds (if the application demands speeds equal to or greater than approximately 15,000 rpm).
- If PWM control is used, make sure that the inductance is not too low.
Which drive is the best fit for battery-powered devices to achieve the highest level of efficiency?
maxon drives are highly efficient, which makes them the perfect choice for battery-powered devices. In order to achieve the optimal level of efficiency, it is important to select a winding which is the best fit for the available battery power and the application operating point. In our standard product portfolio, we offer multiple windings for each motor. However, it is also possible to consider a custom winding if this is a better fit for the application.
